1. Agreement and eligibility
These Terms of service form an agreement between you and What You Inherit. They apply to the website, family-history tool, accounts, paid features and related services. Our Privacy notice explains how information is handled.
You must be legally capable of entering into this agreement. If you use the service on behalf of another person or organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind them and permission to provide any information you submit.
2. The service
The service uses information you provide about a family to generate educational estimates concerning possible inherited conditions, carrier status and future onset. Outputs may include ranked possibilities, probabilities and explanatory material.
The service relies on the information entered and on available scientific evidence. Results may change when family details, source material or the method changes. No output is complete, certain or suitable for every person, ancestry or condition.
3. Medical disclaimer
What You Inherit is not a healthcare provider and does not provide diagnosis, treatment or medical advice. Use of the service does not create a clinician–patient, genetic counsellor–client or other professional relationship.
Do not rely on the service for an emergency or as the sole basis for a decision about testing, treatment, pregnancy, medication, insurance, finance or another material matter. Seek advice from an appropriately qualified professional who can consider your complete circumstances.
If you believe you may have a medical emergency, contact local emergency services immediately.
4. Accounts
You must provide accurate account information and keep sign-in credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless applicable law provides otherwise. Tell us promptly if you believe the account has been accessed without permission.
We may suspend or restrict access where reasonably necessary to protect the service or its users, investigate suspected misuse, address non-payment or comply with law. You may ask us to close your account by contacting us.
5. Payment
- Paid features are billed at the price and in the currency shown at checkout. Applicable taxes may be added where required.
- The report is a one-time purchase. It does not renew, and nothing further is charged unless you choose to buy again.
- Except where required by law or expressly stated otherwise, fees already paid are non-refundable. This does not affect mandatory consumer rights.
- We may change future prices or what a report includes with reasonable notice. A change applies to later purchases only and not retrospectively.
- If you hold an older recurring plan, it continues on the terms you bought it under until you cancel it through your account.
Payment information is collected and processed by our payment provider. We do not receive or store your complete card details.
6. Acceptable use
You may use the service only for lawful, personal or properly authorised purposes. You must not:
- submit information about another person without a lawful basis or appropriate permission;
- attempt to obtain unauthorised access, evade usage limits or interfere with service operation;
- introduce malicious code, probe security controls or use automated means that place an unreasonable load on the service;
- misrepresent an output as a clinical diagnosis or professional medical advice;
- use the service to make unlawful or discriminatory decisions about another person; or
- copy, resell or commercially exploit a substantial part of the service except with written permission.
7. Content and intellectual property
You retain any rights you have in information you submit. You give us a limited permission to process that information only as needed to operate, secure and improve the service and to comply with law, as described in the Privacy notice.
The service, its design, written material, models, reports and branding are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Subject to these terms, we give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the service.
You may download or print a report for personal use or to share with a professional advising you. This does not transfer ownership of the underlying service or permit the report to be sold or presented as an independent clinical assessment.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep the service available and useful, but do not promise uninterrupted access or that every error will be corrected. Maintenance, security events, provider outages or circumstances outside our control may affect availability.
We may add, modify, suspend or discontinue features. Where a change materially affects a paid service, we will take reasonable steps to provide notice or an appropriate remedy where required by law.
9. Disclaimers and liability
To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We disclaim implied warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement and uninterrupted availability. We do not warrant that an estimate will be correct or that it will identify every relevant condition.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss arising from reliance on an estimate contrary to these terms. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable consumer guarantees.
10. General terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes to the service, law or our practices. The effective date appears above. If a material change affects an active paid service, we will take reasonable steps to provide notice before it takes effect.
If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. A delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer this agreement without our consent; we may transfer it as part of a reorganisation, financing, acquisition or sale.
These terms are governed by applicable law. Any mandatory rights or forum protections available to you as a consumer remain unaffected.
